Verbe și adjective cu prepoziție fixă: insist on, cope with

Regula

Multe verbe, adjective și substantive cer o prepoziție anume: insist on, cope with, depend on, responsible for, comply with, adhere to. Alegerea prepoziției nu urmează o logică ușor de dedus, așa că trebuie învățate ca perechi.

Când se folosește

Ori de câte ori construiești o frază cu aceste verbe. În Aptis apar în gramatică și vocabular, uneori cu prepoziția deja dată și cu verbul de ales.

Exemple

• The team leader insisted on completing the project by the original deadline. (Șeful echipei a insistat să termine proiectul până la termenul inițial.)
• Young professionals struggle to cope with the high cost of living. (Tinerii profesioniști se chinuie să facă față costului ridicat al vieții.)
• You can always depend on your best friend. (Poți oricând să te bazezi pe cel mai bun prieten.)
• You are responsible for ensuring all the work is completed on time. (Ești responsabil să te asiguri că toată munca se termină la timp.)

Greșeală tipică

„Responsible of", „insist for", „cope about". Prepoziția greșită sună plauzibil pentru că seamănă cu alte verbe: „against" amintește de „fight against", „about" de verbele de îngrijorare.

Truc

Învață pe perechi și pe familii: comply with, adhere to, obey (fără prepoziție). Dacă propoziția îți dă deja prepoziția, alege verbul care o acceptă: „with" înseamnă comply, nu adhere.

Capcană în întrebările cu variante multiple

Întrebare din bancă (B2): „As the team leader, you are responsible ___ ensuring all the work is completed on time." Variante: of / for / to. Corect: for. „Responsible for" este prepoziția fixă; „responsible of" este greșit.

Alta (C1): „All members of staff are required to ____ with the new data protection policy without exception." Variante: obey / comply / adhere. Corect: comply. Doar „comply" se combină cu „with".

Și (C1): „The new data protection policy was drafted to ensure the company strictly ___ to GDPR regulations." Variante: complies / adheres / follows. Corect: adheres. „Adhere to" merge cu „to", „comply" cere „with", iar „follow" nu are prepoziție.
