Every student have a book y Neither of them are here suenan razonables en español porque «todos» y «ninguno» arrastran un plural mental.

PalabraSe refiere aVerboEjemplo
bothdos, juntospluralBoth my parents work.
neitherninguno de dossingularNeither answer is correct.
alltres o más, o una cantidad enteraplural (o singular si es incontable)All the students passed. All the money is gone.
eachcada uno, por separadosingularEach student has a book.
everytodos, vistos como gruposingularEvery student has a book.

Si son tres o más, usa all, each o every.

Los tres de dos: both, either, neither

Both

Both lleva verbo en plural: Both of them are teachers, Both cars were expensive. Con un pronombre, usa of: both of us, both of them. Con un sustantivo, el of es opcional: both cars o both of the cars.

Either y neither

Ambos admiten un elemento de los dos y llevan verbo en singular: Either day suits me, Neither film was good. Detrás de neither of the + plural, lo más seguro es el singular (Neither of the films was good); en inglés hablado también se oye el plural, pero no hace falta jugarse la pregunta con eso.

Dos trampas del español:

  • Doble negación. Neither ya es negativo. No se dice I didn't see neither film. Se dice I saw neither film o I didn't see either film.
Ojo

either y neither son para dos. Con tres o más, se usa any y none: I didn't like any of the three films.

También hay las parejas either... or («o... o») y neither... nor («ni... ni»): You can either call or write, She neither called nor wrote.

Los de tres o más: all, each, every

All

All va con sustantivo plural (all the students are here) o incontable (all the money is gone, all day). Con pronombres usa of: all of us, all of them.

El inglés usa everyone o everybody para personas y everything para cosas: Everyone is here, Everything is fine. Decir All is fine o All are here no es natural en el uso cotidiano.

Each y every

Se puede usar con of: each of the students.
  • Every ve al grupo completo: Every student must bring ID. No lleva of: every of the students es incorrecto. Con of se dice all of the students o every one of the students.

  1. ¿Cuántos son: dos o más de dos? Dos: both/either/neither. Más de dos: all/each/every.
  2. ¿Afirmas, niegas o das opción? Afirmación de dos: both. Negación de dos: neither. Opción entre dos: either.
  3. ¿Qué verbo? Solo both y all con plural llevan verbo en plural. Todo lo demás, singular.
  4. ¿Hay un not ya en la frase? Entonces no pongas neither: usa either o any.

Ejemplos para fijar la concordancia

Léelos en voz alta y fíjate solo en el verbo: Both of my sisters live abroad. Either option works for me. Neither of the answers was right. All the tickets have been sold. Each candidate has ten minutes. Every seat is taken. Everyone was late.
