| Frase original | En estilo indirecto |
|---|---|
| Present simple: "I work here." | Past simple: She said she worked there. |
| Present continuous: "I'm working." | Past continuous: She said she was working. |
| Past simple: "I finished it." | Past perfect: She said she had finished it. |
| Present perfect: "I've finished." | Past perfect: She said she had finished. |
| will: "I'll call you." | would: She said she would call me. |
| can: "I can help." | could: She said she could help. |
| must: "You must leave." | had to: She said I had to leave. |
She said she is tired, si sigue cansada).
| Directo | Indirecto |
|---|---|
| now | then |
| today | that day |
| yesterday | the day before |
| tomorrow | the next day / the following day |
| last week | the week before |
| here | there |
| this | that |
Tell lleva siempre persona detrás; say, no. She told me that she was late y She said that she was late. Pero no existe She said me, ni She told that she was late. Si quieres poner a quién se lo dijo con say, necesitas to: She said to me that she was late.
En una pregunta directa invertimos: Where do you live? En indirecto, la pregunta se convierte en una frase afirmativa, sin do/does/did y sin signo de interrogación: She asked me where I lived. Nunca She asked me where did I live.
| Directo | Indirecto |
|---|---|
| "Where do you live?" | She asked me where I lived. |
| "What time does it start?" | He asked what time it started. |
| "Is it ready?" (sí/no) | He asked if / whether it was ready. |
Las preguntas de sí o no se introducen con if o whether, nunca con that. He asked me that I wanted a coffee es un calco de «me preguntó que si quería un café».
Las órdenes y las peticiones no usan that, sino un infinitivo con to: "Close the window!" → She told me to close the window. "Could you help me?" → He asked me to help him.
Para la forma negativa, el not va delante de to: "Don't touch it!" → She told me not to touch it. El calco She told me don't touch it no existe.
Tras said y told me, that es opcional: She said (that) she was tired.
|---|---|---|
| explain | + that | He explained that the office was closed. |
| promise | + to + infinitivo | She promised to call me. |
| warn | + persona + not to + infinitivo | He warned me not to go out. |
| suggest | + -ing o + that | She suggested going by train. |
| admit | + -ing o + that | He admitted breaking the window. |
| refuse | + to + infinitivo | They refused to help. |
She suggested to go es un error habitual; es She suggested going o She suggested that we go. Con explain tampoco hay persona directa: He explained me the problem es un calco; se dice He explained the problem to me.
Imagina esta conversación de ayer: "I'm moving to Valencia next month. I've found a flat, and I'll start work on the first. Do you know anyone there?"
Contada hoy: She told me (that) she was moving to Valencia the following month. She said she had found a flat and that she would start work on the first. She asked me if I knew anyone there.
Fíjate en lo que ha cambiado: I pasa a she, am moving pasa a was moving, next month pasa a the following month, have found pasa a had found, will start pasa a would start, y la pregunta final pierde la inversión y se abre con if.
