What the Aptis Speaking part is like

Aptis General Speaking has 4 parts and lasts 12 minutes. You record each answer, and each task has its own indicated time.

  • Part 1, personal information: you answer three questions about yourself.
  • Part 2, describe, express opinions, and give reasons and explanations: you describe a photo and answer two more questions about the topic.
  • Part 3, describe, compare, and give reasons and explanations: you compare two photos and answer two more questions.
  • Part 4, discuss personal experience and give opinions on an abstract topic: three questions, one minute to prepare and two minutes to answer them all.

Parts 1, 2 and 3 are marked from 0 to 5 and Part 4 from 0 to 6. The skill is scored out of 50 and the British Council places it on the CEFR scale.
